Spiralled Placemats

It has been a little while since I’ve posted something but as you might know, as a stylist, end of November and all of December are very busy, so I’ve had very little time for anything else.

I’ve made these beautiful placemats for the table, in a spiral pattern, that can be made in any size you require. All you do is crochet in the round until you have reached the desired diameter you want.

I’ve made these with a nice quality cotton so they are easy to wash and dry. It is worth the investment because you want to be able to clean them so they remain beautiful.

Instructions:

Crochet hook: 4mm

100% Mercerized cotton in medium weight that requires a 4mm crochet hook.

Chain 3 and slip stitch into a circle and chain 1.

Row 1: Work 6 single crochets into middle of your circle.

Row 2: Work 2 single crochets in each single crochet of bottom row, always working in back loops only (14 single crochets).

Row 3: Work *2 single crochets in next single crochet, then 1 single crochet in next single crochet* repeat all around (21 single crochets).

Row 4: Skip first single crochet, now work *2 single crochets in next single crochet, then 1 single crochet in the next 2 single crochets* continue around (27 single crochets). Here I put a marker at the beginning of my round to keep track of my rounds. I weave a thin yarn on a darning needle at the beginning of every round.

Row 5: Work *2 single crochets in next single crochet, then 1 single crochet in the next 3 single crochets* continue around. The increases are always done in the second single crochet of your increases from the previous row, this is what gives you the spiralled effect.

You can now see your pattern forming. Make sure you have 7 panels on your spiral.

Continue in established pattern until you have reached the desired size.

I worked 33 rows for mine.
